My tanning lotion says "liberally prior" what does this mean!?? Right before?

When i used to tan i would apply the lotion before i left for the salon so it would have time to my skin before i started tanning. And applying liberally, to me at least, means to apply as much as it takes to coat your skin in a thin layer and once you rub it in it doesn't leave you sticky or goopy.
