Help with Sims 2 ageing cheat?

I know what the cheat is but it just only works on one household. Is this normal? When I do ctrl + shift + c and type it in it the box extends to half the length of the screen and only goes away if I click off the box and do ctrl shift c again. Is this part of the problem? I don't want my sims to grow up!
