Can anyone yze these lyrics and say how they relate to the cold war?

As you read, you notice the suspense of waiting for the hammer to fall. Thats basically the nukes. The thrid from the last stanza indicates a mushroom cloud, the result of a nuke. The second to last stanza is saying to surrender already, cuz its a pointless war since the people are convinced their going to die anyway.
